Bakersfield College was founded in 1913 and is one of the nation's oldest continually-operating community colleges. The college serves 15,000 students on the 153-acre main campus in northeast Bakersfield, at the Weill Institute in downtown Bakersfield, and at the Delano Center, thirty-five miles north of Bakersfield. Classes are offered on a traditional sixteen week semester calendar as well as in a variety of non-traditional scheduling options: evenings, weekends, short-term vocational programs, instructional television and on-line.
Cerro Coso Community College was established in 1973 as a separate college within the Kern Community College District. Cerro Coso has five instructional sites (Eastern Sierra Center Bishop and Mammoth campuses and Indian Wells Valley, Kern River Valley, and South Kern), which together form the largest geographical service area (18,000 square miles) of any community college in California. A leader in online education, Cerro Coso has been offering online classes since 1995 and now offers twelve degrees online and over one hundred online classes each semester.
San Joaquin Valley College is an accredited private junior college offering accelerated, highly specialized career training programs. Founded in 1977, SJVC has seven campuses throughout California, offering Associate of Science degree programs in business, medical and technical fields in addition to career specific certifications and licensure preparedness. Students benefit from a balance of class-room instruction and real-world experience, learning the skills they need to go straight to work in today's competitive job market.
Santa Barbara Business college in one of the oldest colleges in the state and in the nation. Establishing very close ties with the business community and changing quickly to meet employer demands has always been the hallmark of the College's rich history and success. Under the leadership of the current administration, the college has three campuses, with locations in Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, and Bakersfield, California, serving over 1,000 students per year. The market-driven, student-centered, employer-based philosophy to serving its communities and student's has been a cornerstone to the College's successful, 115 year history.
Taft College, a two year community college , is the single-campus location of the West Kern Community College District. The school offers a variety of programs to assist students in completing their educational goals, including day and evening classes and a quickly growing course offering through its Distance Learning Institute. TC offers eight different Associates in Arts degrees, sixteen Associates in Science degrees, and Certificates of Completion, Achievement, and Proficiency in over twenty vocational programs.
