California State University, Bakersfield is one of the newest campuses in the CSU system, opening its doors in 1970 and receiving university status in 1988. CSUB offers a wide variety of graduate and undergraduate degrees and programs. Classes are offered during the day, at night, and online in a nine week quarter. In addition, Cal State Bakersfield offers a wide variety of sports, clubs and organizations for its 7,000 students, including an international students program. In 2002, CSUB's School of Business and Public Administration was reaccredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB), putting it in the top twenty percent worldwide.
Founded in 1971 in San Diego, California, National University is a private, accredited, nonprofit institution of higher education. The University of La Verne, founded in 1891 is a non-profit, global institution, responsive to changing needs in education and innovative with off-campus education. The university provides the opportunity for working professionals to earn a degree at conveniently located off-campus educational class sites throughout California and Alaska. Programs lead to Associate, Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral Degrees as well as Advanced Credentials. The University of California, since its founding in 1868, has become the world's leading public university system. Today, it is expanding its presence with the creation of UC Merced, the tenth campus in the UC system. The University of California, Merced will create a strong, collaborative educational network that draws upon the vitality and rich history of California's San Joaquin Valley to fulfill UC's historic commitment to excellence in teaching, research and public service. As the first American research University built from the ground up in the 21st Century, the UC Merced campus will be both environmentally sensitive and technologically advanced. Since 1997, UC Merced has been sponsoring a variety of courses and programs through its Office of Academic Programs and through its existing partnerships with other UC campuses and departments. The University's Office of Relations with Schools (ORS) has also already been helping K-12 students and their families throughout the region to prepare for college. Set to open in the fall of 2005, UC Merced's new campus will accept 600 students at the freshmen level, 300 transfer students and 100 graduate students. The university's sites in Bakersfield, Fresno and Modesto, together with the Tri-College Center in Merced are working to deliver programming to meet the needs of individual constituent groups.
University of Phoenix was founded in 1976 and accredited in 1978 and has over one hundred locations throughout North America. University of Phoenix is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association. All instructors hold a Masters or Doctoral degree and work in the fields that they teach in so they can provide real-world solutions. The university offers a wide variety of Bachelor's, Master's, and Non-degree programs. Each program is designed with the career path in mind, completely preparing students for work in these fields.
