The City of Delano is the second largest City in Kern County. Its population has nearly doubled since 2000 to a population of 50,000.
Strategically located along State Highway 99 and well connected to surrounding communities, it is emerging as a center of trade for residents within a 25-mile radius. Its trade volume in 2005 was over $520 Million and will exceed $700 Million by the end of 2007. Topping the list of goods and services are general merchandise, automotive, food stores, and restaurants.
On the industrial side, Delano has over 900 acres with the General Plan Designation of Industrial. Its leading industrial plants are the West Coast Distribution Center for Sears and the large fruit processing firm of Paramount Citrus.
One newly remodeled shopping center, and expanded stores, include a 100,000 square foot facility, a site containing a new Rite-Aid, and eight more acres of restaurant and new retail.
The commercial and industrial companies now in Delano and those that are coming soon will greatly benefit by the newly awarded State Enterprise Zone. That Zone will provide tax deductions for all of the city’s companies for the next 15 years.
With this new commercial growth, steady industrial growth, the build-out of 3,000 approved new homes, and the positive programs in place, Delano is a new city with an exciting future.
